The products were tested for printing in the HP Indigo 5500, 5000 and 5030 models. Specifically, the substances tested and approved are G-Print 100, 115, 130 170, 200 and 250 g/m2, and G-Print Smooth 100, 115, 130 and 250 g/m2.

Paper performance is graded using a star system where three stars is the best result, denoting “best-performing paper”, two stars stand for “recommended paper” and one star just means “good paper”.

Performance is evaluated in three aspects: runnability (smooth transport through the machine), fixing (ink-paper interaction) and blanket compatibility (paper influence on blankets). G-Print and G-Print Smooth were evaluated best-performing paper (3 stars) on runnability and fixing, and rated recommended paper (2 stars) on blanket compatibility.

HP Indigo, as well as other OEMs, has a policy of testing paper for approval. Information about paper compatibility allows OEMs to help their customers make the most of their machines in terms of smooth operation, print results and production economy.
The investment will allow the company to use different fibres in the production of its G-Print coated paper while improving the paper’s overall quality.

Grycksbo Paper was acquired by Accent Equity Partners AB, from Stora Enso in 2006. During its first year under new management one million euro was invested to improve efficiency. Recently, the board decided on further investments, this time to develop the mill’s re-pulping line. The investment comprises a new re-pulper and two refiners. Once finished, additional fibres will be able to be used in the production of G-Print.

“Grycksbo Paper is not an integrated paper mill, so it is necessary to reach a high level of flexibility to enable us to use more types of fibres”, says Mikael Frölander, MD Grycksbo Paper AB.

“G-Print is a unique coated paper, and is manufactured in a patented coating process. Due to this investment we will be able to use other types of pulp, which will improve the key properties of this product, namely a higher bulk and an improved formation.

“Today there is some concern in the wood and pulp markets, due mainly to rising wood costs, and the lack of birch wood as a consequence of the decision to dramatically increase the export duties of Russian birch”, says Mikael Frölander. “New pulp from South America, which predominantly uses eucalyptus, is becoming increasingly prevalent. These fibres need to be treated differently to our Nordic birch and the investment in the re-pulper will allow us to widen the material base that we can use.”

The board has decided to invest 130 million SEK in order to replace the present oil-fed boiler with a biomass boiler, which will meet the paper mill’s entire need for steam when it comes on-line during the second half of 2009. The new boiler will lead to a more sustainable business, both environmentally and economically.

It will be one of the biggest environmental investments during 2009 in the county of Dalarna where Grycksbo Paper is located. The investment comprises: The conversion of the present oil-fuelled boiler into a biomass boiler, a new handling and biofuel storage area, a filter for smoke gas cleaning and renovation of the existing turbine to produce environmentally responsible electricity.

Depending on which biofuel is chosen for the boiler, there may still be some additional investments to come. Currently the mill is looking into the viability of different biofuel alternatives like pellets or woodchips made from branches and treetops. It is important to choose the best combination of flexibility and performance, so that both the mill and customers alike benefit from this substantial investment.

As Grycksbo Paper’s MD Mikael Frölander says “We aim to take a leadership position in our industry and our ‘no one greener’ vision is very important to us, as our aim is to produce G-Print paper in the most environmentally sound way possible,” Frölander continues. “We have been taking steps to become more environmentally responsible for many years now; for example in 2003 we started to use railway transport for G-Print on all destinations possible. We also hold Chain of Custody certification in accordance with FSC regulations. Additionally, our emission levels to both air and water are very low, which we also present in our annual EMAS reports.”

This investment shows that Grycksbo Paper takes its vision seriously it will abandon oil as an energy source when the biomass boiler starts operation, and the mill’s energy needs will be generated from renewable and locally available biofuels. This investment means that the reduction of the mill’s fossil CO2-emissions corresponds to the amount that all 27382 cars in the local municipality of Falun emit over the course of a year when driving an average14,000 kilometres per year.

Another environmental aspect of G-Print paper, which is often forgotten, is how its excellent runnability in customer’s printing presses actually contributes to a better environment. In a recent market study customers gave G-Print top marks for its runnability. In practice this means that the printers produce less waste while also minimising downtime. Savings on resources are always good for the environment and contribute to better customer profitability and productivity.

If that’s how it is, we have some good news for you: G-Print Smooth.

It is more or less the same paper as G-Print, but with one important exception. The smoothness. The surface is so smooth it allows for screen rulings up to 200 lpi (80 lpcm) without adjustment. This means even better reproduction of high-resolution images. Distinctive print and sharp detail. G-Print Smooth has proved itself in numerous productions of photo books and art books – the kind of applications where a paper is really put to a test.
You may have experienced G-Print Smooth already. It’s the quality we previously called "Arrow Matt".

If you want to go for slightly better image printing– choose G-Print Smooth.
If you’d rather go for slightly more bulk and paper feel – choose G-Print.

http://grycksbopaper.episerverhotell.net/en/media/News/G-PrintSmooth
