On 13th of October Tarlan Oskooie and Jennifer Claesson, two students from the gymnasium (grammar school) Falu Frigymnasium in Falun Sweden, left for a two-week volunteer period with “The Library Project “ in China. Grycksbo Paper supports this organisation which donates books and libraries to under-financed schools and orphanages in the developing world. Each day the students blog about their experiences.
“Our interest in ’The Library Project’ started in August when we found its website, Tarlan Oskooie and Jennifer Claesson explain. ”’The Library Project’” " is an organisation, which makes a real difference where the help is most needed in Asia and China. Its strong belief is that education is the key to alleviating poverty and the project’s activities give these children a chance for a better life.
“When we discussed our obligatory third form school project work, we felt from the start that we wanted to do some meaningful work. The opportunity to be volunteers at ’The Library Project‘ for two weeks in China is really exciting. We are blogging every day at www.grycksbopaper.com/paperaid about our experiences. Among other things, we will visit projects in Xi’an, a city of multi-millions of people, to see how the books and library support activities in reality,” concludes Tarkan and Jennifer.
“We were really enthusiastic when Tarlan and Jennifer got in touch with us and wanted to do their school project work about ’The Library Project,’” says Jenny Beckman, marketing co-ordinator at Grycksbo Paper. “A fair amount of the paper we produce is used for books of many kinds, not least for school books. We strongly believe in the printed word and education as means of fighting poverty and we therefore support ’The Library Project.’ The students will see first hand how the support reaches the children who need it and the impact it makes.
“This initiative is an important part of our present campaign ’G-Print is ON.’ We are excited about the fact that many of our European customers actively support ’The Library Project.’ Among other fund-raising activities, T-shirts with the text ’I ♥ PAPER’ are sold and the money donated to ’The Library Project.’ Jenny Beckman concludes.
